The Power Of Believing In Yourself

When we’re young we believe in ourselves wholeheartedly. We create, invent, take risks, and play constantly. We trust that we can do what we set our minds to and we have confidence that it will be great! So, that’s exactly what we do…We make the impossible, possible and the imaginary, real. If you’ve never thought back to your childhood or watched children play, do yourself a favor and try it. They have belief radiating out of their bodies. When we were young we had the benefit of a clean slate. No one had tainted our beliefs yet or projected their own belief system on us so we literally believed we could do anything.

But then there’s a switch that goes off at some point. After we’ve been told we can’t . . . we should’t . . . that’s not possible . . . and many more phrases. So even as we spend our days setting goals and working hard to achieve them, especially when they’re fresh in our minds. But over time the goals we set seem to get further and further out of reach. Every time we don’t achieve the goals we set, we lose a little confidence and trust in ourselves and even in the belief that we can actually make some pretty amazing things happen. Before we know it we’re not reaching our goals and drowning in the sea of stuckness because all we’re doing is treading water. We’re not going anywhere. So how do we get that child-like belief back into our lives?

Let’s start with the idea that our beliefs hold great power. Have you ever thought about your beliefs? They are what shape our identities which then inform our actions and behaviors gives us our results. So can we all agree that our beliefs hold power? The question is, how can we get back to those childhood beliefs where everything is possible?

  1. Get Quiet
Spend time during the day in quiet. See if you can tune into what you believe about a particular goal you are trying to achieve. Meditation can be an extremely powerful tool to use when working on this.

  2. Write It Down
Take some time out of your day to journal about what comes up for you while getting quiet or meditating. Writing down your experiences and answering some prompts or questions can really help you dig a little deeper into what’s under the surface.

  3. Tap Into Your Inner Child
Take a peek at your calendar and see what you have on there that allows you to tap into your inner child. What are the things that give you the freedom to let loose? Add more of those activities into your week.

  4. Celebrate The Journey
We all notice when we don’t reach goals, but how often do you celebrate the baby steps along the way? What would it look like if you took the time to acknowledge all the things that you are doing well along your journey? The fact is, we tend to gravitate toward what’s most pleasurable, so make the journey pleasurable.

  5. Affirmations
Take a peek at an affirmation that embodies the beliefs you want to have. Hang them up, write them down, say them out loud and surround yourself with those words so you can start to embrace this vision for yourself too! Click here to grab my list of Healthy Affirmations.

No matter what your beliefs are now, we get to decide whether to give them power or realize when our own beliefs are outdated and need a little upgrade. When it comes to your health, give some of these tips a try and see what comes up for you. Theodore Roosevelt said, “Believe in yourself and you’re half way there.” So what do you believe you are capable of right now? I can’t wait to hear from all of you. Please let me know in the comments where you stand with believing in yourself. You are worthy and you are capable of great things. I hold space in the world for that version of you to show up. Now it’s your turn to do the work!

Cheers to your health!
